Thematic Photographic #4 -- Full-on Color

posted Wednesday, 20 August 2008

This week's Thematic Photographic subject is 'colorful.' Carmi, Thematic's inventor, confessed that he chose the theme in part to lighten his own mood after a bum couple of weeks, and it's interesting how looking at vivid photos does indeed make you feel a little bit brighter.

Thanks to Carmi, I also got a chance to take a look at some photos I haven't considered lately. First, I did a tag search among my photos on flickr for 'color,' to see what came up. I can't decide on one, so here are -- well, here are a bunch:

meg

Meg, Northampton, Mass.; Nikon D70, 18-55 Nikkor lens

stairs

Steps, Greenfield, Mass.; Nikon D70, 18-55 Nikkor lens

i want candy

I Want Candy; Nikon D70, 18-55 Nikkor lens

...then I searched for specific colors, and I remembered these mosaics I made a while back:

red

Red;Mosaic Maker

yellow

Yellow;Mosaic Maker

green

Green;Mosaic Maker

...and those got me thinking about some of my recent press trips, on which I try to visit public markets whenever possible:

apples and oranges

Apples and Oranges, Lyon, France; Nikon D70, 18-55 Nikkor lens

les fleurs

les fleurs, Lyon, France; Nikon D70, 18-55 Nikkor lens

...and local stores, of course.

sabre cutlery

Sabre Cutlery. Lyon France; Nikon D70, 18-55 Nikkor lens

So that's my colorful contribution this week; it was fun hunting. Hope they made the day a little less grayscale.

You've brightened my mood with these, and for that I am very thankful to you! I need to spend more time slowly appreciating this richly varied series. You have such a wonderful photographic touch.

Wow, so many colourful photos... you're loving this week's theme, I can tell. Your mosaics are nifty. Is there a program to make those quickly and easily, or did you do them manually?

I'll be up with my colourful photos later in the week. I have to go hunting. -smarmoofus

What a wonderful array of colors! You certainly hit upon a good theme at Carmi's! I love the cutlery shot the best...perhaps it is because I remember seeing many goods for sale in Europe...in that same method! I even photographed Polish Pottery in the same way!

Obviously you know I'm gonna like the first shot, but what you might not guess is that my favorite of the lot is the second one. First time through, I thought... well I'm not gonna tell ya what I thought it was 'cause I think I'll shoot that idea myself. But it wasn't steps! Brilliant!
