Springfield, Mass. is auctioning off the life-sized promotional display of the Simpsons given to them by Fox to promote The Simpsons Movie on eBay. Some of the producers of the city's short film entry, created along with films from other Springfields in hopes of winning the right to show the earliest premiere, took the plastic Bart to NYC with them and chased down some Simpsons big-wigs, including Mike Scully, David Silverman, and Matt Groening, and had them sign the yellow marauder in silver ink.
Springfield, Vt. won the top prize in the Hometown Premiere Contest, but the other cities involved also hosted early screenings of the film, and now Springfield, Mass. is taking it a step further and auctioning off their plastic and cardboard display for charity. The money will go to the Springfield Boys and Girls Club, and judging by how the auction is going so far, it looks like it's going to be a nice chunk-a-change for the non-profit. As of now, the top bid is over $2,000.
