I recently wrote
a piece on Judie's , the Amherst, Mass. institution and home of Judie's popovers.
A study in business-as-run-by-Creatives at its best, Judies has a number of other signature items such as apple butter and 'double-wine,' for the boozehound in you.
Namesake Judie Teraspulsky and Chef Michael Babb are known throughout the college town (and by a few celebrity fans of the eatery) to be experimental, inventive culinary folk, and on the day I visited, Babb introduced me to one of Judie's newest creations - a 'nutso noodles' concoction made with angel hair pasta, mashed potatoes, scallions, and marsala sauce, pan-seared into a neat little package and dusted liberally with pepper by Judie hereself. Actually, I was dusted liberally with pepper by Judie herself as well, which is one of the draws of the place - the owner is as nutso as her noodles (in a fun, awesome way).
Anyhoo, the mix of ingredients sounded strange to me too. But as my other half likes to put it when he eats something particularly tasty, 'This is what God poops.'
